Greeting St. Germaine Families,
My name is Michelle Knotts and I am the math, 6th grade English, 7th and 8th grade literature, and am the 6th grade homeroom teacher. I am very excited to be into my second decade of teaching and am thrilled to be a part of the St. Germaine family. I strongly encourage joining your child’s Remind 101 classes to ensure you are apprised of important information. Additionally, you are able to reach me best via this method of communication. You may also email me at [email protected]. Instructions for joining Remind 101 will be attached.
Expectations/Grading
Given the volume of curriculum, some homework should be expected. Class time will usually be given to begin (and sometimes finish) assignments and reading. The school’s grading policy is utilized universally. Homework is due the next day, unless otherwise specified. Late work is given a 10% deduction and is only accepted one day late. If a student turns in work 2 days past the due date, no credit is awarded. In the event of a child’s absence, one day per day absent is given to complete the missed work without penalty. If you know your child will have an upcoming absence(s) please provide at much notice as possible and I will make every effort to gather work in advance.
“Fixing” incorrect work is permitted and strongly encouraged, in most cases. Credit is awarded for the additional effort a student makes in an effort to master concepts. My goal is mastery of lessons. The exception to this rule are “Reading Quizzes”. Those may NOT be corrected (literature classes). Staying up to date on reading assignments is directly correlated to success with our reading program.
In middle school, it is important for students to take responsibility for keeping track of assignments, papers, and due dates. I strongly recommend using a daily planner. Assignments and important upcoming due dates are posted on the board.
Materials
I look forward to getting to know each of your children and your family. Your choice for a Catholic education for your student is appreciated and our classroom will reflect your family’s values. Always feel free to contact me with questions or concerns.
God Bless,
Michelle Knotts
